Senior Safety Consultant – Ordnance, Munitions, and Explosives (OME)
Location: Bristol, England, United Kingdom | Remote/Hybrid | Full or Part-Time
Salary: £65,000 - £80,000 per annum (depending on skills and experience)
Step into a pivotal role where your technical expertise will drive safety innovation on some of the most advanced Ordnance, Munitions, and Explosives (OME) programmes. As a Senior Safety Consultant working with our client, you will lead the charge in hazard and risk management, influencing the design and operation of cutting-edge systems including directed energy weapons, hypersonics, and autonomous ordnance clearance. This dynamic position blends specialist consultancy with business development, providing you with the opportunity to apply your engineering skills while shaping the future of OME safety on air platforms, ships, submarines, and land systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead hazard and risk analysis on complex OME projects, providing expert guidance to junior staff.
Conduct independent safety audits to ensure compliance and risk mitigation across OME programmes.
Develop and implement safety strategies for innovative and complex OME systems.
Spearhead integration studies of OME technologies across multiple platforms including air, sea, and land environments.
Define safety certification and qualification plans to support programme success and regulatory compliance.
Required Skills:
Degree-level education (or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline.
Proven experience in hazard and risk analysis, particularly within OME or related fields.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and influence multi-disciplinary teams.
Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Capacity to operate within a flexible hybrid working model, engaging with clients and project sites.
Nice to Have Skills:
Chartered Status with the UK Engineering Council.
Consultancy experience with exposure to safety assessments and audits.
Background in emerging technologies such as directed energy or autonomous systems.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
Significant hands-on experience in OME safety consultancy or systems engineering.
Familiarity with certification and qualification frameworks pertinent to defence and ordnance sectors.
Other Requirements:
Must be a UK national due to security clearance requirements.
Ability to obtain and maintain UK National Security Vetting clearance.
Flexibility to travel between home, office, client sites, and possibly other locations as needed.
