Senior Autonomous Systems Assurance Consultant Location: Any UK office location with flexible hybrid working
Sector: Defence and Critical National Infrastructure

Our client is an employee-owned consultancy delivering high-integrity safety, environmental and engineering solutions across defence and critical national infrastructure. The digital safety team is growing and they are seeking a Senior Autonomous Systems Assurance Consultant to lead the assurance of next-generation autonomous and AI enabled technologies.
This role offers the chance to work at the forefront of autonomy, shaping how emerging systems are certified, assured and deployed safely across complex domains.
About the role You will take a lead role in delivering safety assurance for autonomous and uncrewed systems, guiding clients through recognised standards and advanced AI assurance methods. You will support the strategic development of the autonomy capability, mentor consultants and contribute to business development activity.
Key responsibilities ● Lead delivery of autonomy and AI safety assurance tasks across defence and CNI programmes
● Apply AMLAS and other AI assurance guidance to operational systems
● Conduct system safety analysis including hazard identification, FHA and STPA
● Assess risks linked to ML behaviours, sensor fusion and automated decision making
● Produce structured safety cases using GSN
● Support capability development and shape future autonomy service offerings
● Mentor consultants working in autonomy and digital safety
● Act as Bid Manager or technical contributor in proposal work
● Build and maintain strong client relationships
● Oversee project delivery with responsibility for quality, timescales and budget
● Provide technical review and approval of deliverables
● Support project risk management
● Travel to client or contractor sites as required (UK and occasional overseas)
About you ● Proven track record in autonomous or uncrewed systems assurance
● Experience producing safety cases and using GSN
● Working knowledge of AMLAS, autonomy standards and emerging AI regulation
● Background in defence or critical national infrastructure
● Experience across air land maritime or nuclear is beneficial
● Strong stakeholder engagement skills
● Able to obtain UK security clearance
● Professional qualification or institution membership (or working towards)
Experience presenting technical papers or supporting business development is desirable but not essential. Training will be provided.
